On International Women’s Day, we are delighted announce that the IMD Stewart Hamilton Scholarship will in the future be awarded to an outstanding female candidate in the IMD MBA Program.
The Scholarship was initiated with the support of his family to pay tribute to Professor Stewart Hamilton, who died unexpectedly on 5th May 2014. We are hugely indebted to the alumni community whose gifts provide funding for this scholarship. Having consulted with Stewart’s family, the scholarship grant has been generously increased from CHF20,000 to CHF50,000 per year.
Stewart was Professor of Accounting and Finance with special interest in the areas of corporate governance, investor protection, and risk management. He was part of IMD’s faculty since 1981 and played an influential role in the creation and development of the School from its origins with IMEDE. A highly-respected, talented and beloved professor, Stewart Hamilton also served as IMD’s Dean of Finance and Administration from 2008 to 2009.
Throughout his academic career, Stewart Hamilton wrote very thoughtful and prize winning case studies. His book “Greed and Corporate Failure: Lessons from Recent Disasters,” written with MBA alumnae Alicia Micklethwait, was highly appreciated. Stewart was highly regarded for his intellect, charisma, dedication to ethical behavior and leadership. He will be remembered for his inquisitiveness, insistence on depth of analysis, unique sense of humor and fairness. This scholarship is a tribute to his memory and his lasting impact.
