Chart a path for the success of your family business

Established in 1988, IMD’s Leading your Family Business is recognized as the world’s first, and longest-running program dedicated to holistic family and enterprise success.

This program is designed to empower you with practical strategies and governance structures to manage, grow and innovate your family business for multi-generational success. Embark on a comprehensive learning journey to reflect on your personal and professional challenges, priorities, and leadership style, guiding you to build a high-performing company with harmonious relationships.

This program is developed by the Global Family Business Center at IMD, a world-leading family business research and education center, focusing on the real issues that you face as a family business.

Understand family business ecosystems

Explore what constitutes a successful family business and how external and internal forces affect family ecosystems.

Navigate challenges

Brainstorm solutions for personal or familial challenges or crises affecting your family business – from growth, to governance, succession, and culture.

Future-proof your business

Learn strategies to adapt and innovate in a changing landscape, ensuring your family business remains relevant and competitive for future generations.

Grow your performance

Gain tangible take-home value and actionable insights designed to drive growth and elevate the overall performance of your family business.

You and your class

Your class will comprise a carefully selected group of business-owning families who share similar issues to yours. With IMD Business School’s rich expertise of over 30 years working with family businesses you will benefit from the most impactful learning both individually and as a group. Read more about the admission criteria.

Leading your Family Business has been created for members of the same family. For ideal learning benefits, we recommend team attendance – for example, family teams of several generations, siblings, cousins and/or key non-family managers. Develop a common approach, a common language, and build on this by sending members to the same program, or in phases over time – ideally with key decision makers.

What our participants say
Patricia Escaler

A real turning point

We can easily get caught up in our business at home and miss out on what is essential. Leading your Family Business has been a real turning point for my family – for the way we perceive life and the bigger purpose and picture of things. I think anyone who is starting up a family business or has been involved in one for several generations can gain so much from this program.

The best thing that could have happened

This program has made a huge impact – not just on a family business level but on our family as a whole. In just a week, there has already been a significant change in everyone who attended, and it’s exciting to see what more will be implemented because of this. It’s the best thing that could have happened to our business.

Truly fantastic and highly relevant

Truly fantastic and highly relevant. Finally, an organized and well-structured approach dealing with all the challenges facing us as a family and business entity.

Clarity, and space for dialogue

The benefits of the LFB program for me are twofold. First, the lectures provide the theory and frameworks that clarify the complex systems and dynamics present in family businesses. More importantly, the program provides a space for dialogue between family members as well as culturally diverse peers from around the globe facing similar challenges.

When you run a family business, you have many specific and inherent challenges to learn to deal with. Leading your Family Business program addresses these aspects, as well as how society and future trends could impact you and your business. We will explore opportunities and trends for owning, governing and managing your family enterprise to ensure multi-generational success.
