IMD’s expertise and renown in the field of digital and AI transformation has been further strengthened with the launch of the TONOMUS Global Center for Digital and AI Transformation.

IMD was awarded a grant from TONOMUS, NEOM’s cognitive technology and digital infrastructure subsidiary. This grant will foster innovation by funding new independent research, building on the work IMD has conducted in this critical sector over the past decade.

The mission of the TONOMUS Global Center for Digital and AI Transformation is to carry out academic research and thought leadership on the potential of digital transformation and AI to inspire a more prosperous, sustainable and inclusive world. Combining IMD’s Global Center for Digital Business Transformation and its Artificial Intelligence Initiative, the TONOMUS Global Center for Digital and AI Transformation will focus on analyzing the latest trends in technology impacting business and society and will help navigate the challenging organizational dynamics required for digital and AI transformation.

The core focus of the Center is to ensure the responsible and sustainable delivery of digital technologies and AI. Additionally, the Center will devise strategies to adapt people, resources, processes, and organizational culture to embrace digital and AI innovations, as well as how to anchor digital and AI to support ongoing performance.

The Center is led by IMD Professor of Strategy and Digital, Michael Wade, who has published 10 books and more than 100 articles and case studies on the topic. The Center is overseen by an advisory board, with three representatives from both TONOMUS and IMD.

Wade, who also holds the TONOMUS Professorship in Digital Business Transformation, said: “This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to driving meaningful change in the digital and AI landscape. With support from TONOMUS, we are poised to freely and independently advance our groundbreaking research and develop transformative strategies that will shape the future of business and society.”

Joseph Bradley, Chief Executive Officer of TONOMUS, said: “With TONOMUS’ support, expertise, and vision, and IMD’s leadership and ingenuity in the digital and AI transformation space, the Center will serve as a hub for cutting-edge research and solutions that address global challenges and fuel sustainable growth. I am excited to announce this collaboration of brilliant minds and pioneering technologies that will allow us to forge a better tomorrow and transform the lives of people across the globe.”

TONOMUS is delivering a full-scale, end-to-end cognitive technology ecosystem for NEOM. By harnessing the power of AI, Internet of Things, and blockchain, the company is bringing cognitive cities to life by pushing the boundaries of knowledge and innovation. NEOM is Saudi Arabia’s land of the future in Tabuk, an urban area built on the foundations of digital and sustainability, with an ambition to redefine livability, business, and conservation.
