Enterprise for Society Center (E4S)
The Enterprise for Society Center (E4S) is a joint venture established by IMD and our Lausanne-based neighbors EPFL and UNIL in 2020. Its mission is to spearhead the transition to a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient economy through education, innovation, and research.
Celebrating its fourth year of activity in 2023, E4S welcomed another cohort of 32 students to the Master of Science in Sustainable Management and Technology. The Center continued to grow and develop research projects, increased media attention, the support of 14 partners, numerous events, and the first MSc in Sustainable Management and Technology graduates.

Increased activity, greater impact
In 2023, the E4S Center financed 30 research and innovation projects, published nine white papers, and 19 articles in Swiss and international media outlets. The center organized 16 events with more than 2,000 participants.
E4S holds two flagship events – Showcase 2030 and the Annual Summit – gathering hundreds of participants at IMD and EPFL, respectively, and featuring research work on key challenges of our time.
An additional 14 other conferences, action labs, and seminars took place throughout the year on such important topics as green bonds, the future of sustainability reporting, or the true cost of food.
In 2023, more than 30 research groups worked with the support of the Center, translating their insights into white papers, academic and practitioners’ papers, workshops, and featured in media articles.
