IMD business school for management and leadership courses

Master of Science in Sustainable Management and Technology

The two-year Master of Science in Sustainable Management and Technology (SMT), inaugurated in 2021, is delivered by the Enterprise for Society (E4S) Center on behalf of its three founding institutions: IMD, the University of Lausanne (UNIL), and the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).

It trains the next generation to conduct business to benefit their organizations, the environment, and society.

Courses are taught by professors at the UNIL, IMD, and EPFL campuses, thus bringing together the expertise of three internationally renowned academic institutions.

The program builds competencies in three dimensions: technology and innovation, economics and management, and sustainability. Uniquely, the SMT places a balanced focus on all three dimensions simultaneously.

The first cohort has graduated

The SMT’s inaugural cohort – the 2021–2023 cohort – graduated in October 2023 with resounding success. Within three months of graduation, 94% of the graduates on the job market received at least one job offer. Of those, 75% are located in Switzerland. Graduates have integrated various organizations, including companies (such as Rolex, Pictet, Zurich Insurance), non-profits (such as HEC, Enterprise for Society), and agencies (such as the UNDP).

In Spring 2024, SMT’s second cohort – the 2022–2024 cohort – is in its last semester in the program, while the third cohort is in its second semester.

The SMT continues to attract extremely talented students. The third cohort consists of 35 students (up from 32 for the previous two cohorts), students from 18 countries, and female participants outnumber male participants.
