IMD business school for management and leadership courses

Overview of the year

IMD has an established international reputation for producing research and thought leadership that is rigorous, relevant, insightful, and actionable.

With a history of working closely with diverse businesses and industries through our programs, events, and networks, our faculty and research fellows draw on the current challenges and experiences of the corporate world to write cases, academic and practitioner articles, book chapters, and books that are grounded in real-world practice and informed by the latest academic thinking.

Our output is highly sought after by business executives in all sectors of the global economy as well as business school and university peers worldwide.

A highly successful year for research productivity and recognition

The number of articles published in FT50 journals reached a record high of 24. The FT50 is the list of top-tier journals used by the Financial Times to assess research and compile business school rankings.

Global sales of our cases hit another all-time high, selling more than 233,000 cases worldwide. Numerous IMD cases won awards in international case writing competitions, eight were featured on The Case Centre Bestselling Cases List 2023, and five of our faculty made it into the Top 50 Bestselling Case Authors of 2022/2023. Finally, IMD ranked in the top five worldwide in The Case Centre Impact Index 2023, a new global annual indicator that measures the reach and impact of organizations’ case writing.

Our digital knowledge hub, I by IMD, reached an audience of over 470,000 unique users. The magazine is now available on the e-journals/in-flight channels of selected airlines and in business hotels.

Several faculty members published books, were recognized for their academic papers, inducted into halls of fame, presented with prestigious awards, and honored for their expertise in 2023.

“In 2023, IMD faculty and research staff continued to be vibrant in producing thought leadership and new knowledge. The Financial Times degree programs rankings reveal that IMD is now Switzerland’s most research-intensive business school, capping a half-decade of transformation of our research capabilities.”
