Indoor cellular communications dilemma
This case shows how the R&D division of Ericsson Radio Systems developed a new technological concept to address the indoor cellular communications issue. An internal project team actually developed, tested and presented the + hub and radio transmitters ; system that was considered a major technological breakthrough. However, the business units within Ericsson never showed a strong interest for the technology and Malte Lillestrelle, the project leader, was very disappointed when he learned that Ericsson’s major European competitor, Nokia, had developed a product line for indoor cellular comminucations based on the ideas he and his team had worked on three years before.
