Ciba in China

23 pages
November 1996
Reference: IMD-3-0675

In April 1996, Dr. Jacques Barman, Executive Committee Member of Ciba Geigy in charge of Asia and Guy Clayton, Chairman of Ciba Geigy (China) are in Basel (Switzerland) to reflect on the different activities of the group in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Three major challenges have to be addressed: 1) Growth of Ciba Geigy’s activities in China has slowed down in 1994 and 1995. 2) Several Chinese partners show considerable difficulties in living up to their contribution to the joint ventures, Ciba is involved in. 3) “Rules of the game” for competing in China are being modified.
