10 pages
December 2009
Reference: IMD-2-0153

The case demonstrates the potential companies have to drive innovation in order to reach ambitious CO2 reduction targets. It documents Lafarge’s efforts under WWF International’s Climate Savers initiative. Climate Savers is a platform to transform business and industry into pioneers on climate and energy solutions. The case focuses on how the company facilitated decision-making processes and strengthened the autonomy of operational managers in implementing CO2 reduction projects by improving internal data management and putting in place a user-friendly tool for monitoring, analysis and simulation of mitigation alternatives.

Learning Objective

1) Deliver strong arguments that ambitious CO2 reduction targets trigger innovation and are therefore good for business development and growth. 2) Inspire business leaders to adopt effective management initiatives designed to drive companies towards more ambitious CO2 reduction targets. 3) Show how to develop and implement innovative tools to support CO2 mitigation decision-making.
