Reference: IMD-2-0156

The case details an example of how addressing the climate change issue makes business sense. It introduces explaining the partnership between Sagawa Express and WWF International’s Climate Savers program. Climate Savers is a program that supports companies in reducing their carbon dioxide emissions. Sagawa Express set to reduce its carbon emissions through its trucks and vehicles fleet. In order to do so it had to build fueling stations infrastructure. Participation in Climate Savers inspired other environmental innovations, such as the offsetting parcel program. Sagawa Express is still waiting to receive cost savings from the project but is gaining an improved brand and falling emissions.

Learning Objective

1) Encourage business to address the climate change issue as it makes business sense and creates opportunities. 2) Show how to create, develop and market environmentally friendly products. 3) Role model a company that is dedicated to making a positive impact in the climate change issue.
